The First workshop on Exchange Experiences of the Cambodia Korea Alumni Association that was supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) was held on august 29, 2008 at Imperial Hotel under the presidency of Prof. Chhour Y Meng, President of the Cambodia Korea Alumni Assoicaiton (CAMKAA) and the Director of the National Pediatric Hospital, and Mr. Kim Byung-gwan, Representative of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Prof. Chhour Y Meng said that this was the first time that the association was organized the workshop. The main goal of this workshop was to share experiences among members from one filed to another field and from one ministry to another ministry. There were 5 speakers from 5 ministries, the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Ministry of Rural Development and Ministry of Health.

Mr. Kim Byung-gwan, Representative of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to the Kingdom of Cambodia stated that KOICA is currently performing various kinds of cooperation program in Cambodia. KOICA is providing some big and important projects in various kinds of fields; for the training programs, KOICA is inviting more than 100 Cambodians to Korea every year, and KOICA is dispatching Korean Experts and Volunteers to Cambodia to share their knowledge, know-how, skills and experiences with Cambodian people.

Mr. Kim Byung-gwan went on to say that KOICA’s Development Cooperation Programs have made a significant contribution in this regard, with a total of 1,044 Cambodian participants invited to Korea from 1994 to 2007 for various training and study courses. They have visited Korea and shared with Korea’s economic, industrial, technological and management experience and expertise, as well as having had the opportunity to glimpse the history and culture of the country and its people and they are all become dear friends of Korea.

Phnom Penh:  100 former trainees who have been participated the training courses in the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) were organized the workshop on August 29, 2008.

Prof. Chhour Y Meng, Director of National Pediatric Hospital (NPH) and the President of the Cambodia Korea Alumni Association (CAMKAA) informed that this was the first time that the association was organized the workshop. The main goal of this workshop was to share experiences among members from one filed to another field and from one ministry to another ministry.

All alumni were from the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Ministry of Rural Development and Ministry of Health.

Mr. Kim Byung-gwan, Representative of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to the Kingdom of Cambodia stated that KOICA was inviting more than 100 Cambodians to Korea every year.

From 1994 to 2007, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) was inviting 1,044 Cambodian participants to have various training and study courses in the Republic of Korea.

1- Introduction

As program, workshop on the Cambodia Korea Alumni Association (CAMKAA) was held half day on Friday, August 29, 2008 at Imperial Hotel, Phnom Penh to review and collect suggestion from the workshop in order to provide more knowledge to the former trainees and share know-how and experiences which they have participated the training program in Korea through supporting from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).This workshop also promote the result of five (5) topic researches, which use as reference to Cambodia government officials to enhance all the fields in these projects

The workshop was organized by Cambodia Korea Alumni Association (CAMKAA). The workshop was attended by some 09 ministries with 70 attendees. Workshop attendees were asked to celebrate this kind of workshop again.

Executive summary

  • The workshop was implemented according to plan.
  • The experiences shared at the workshop, – through presentations and through a discussion – were inspirational and highly appreciated by the participants.
  • The workshop was instrumental in strengthening partnerships among 9 ministries in Cambodia.

2- Purpose of the workshop

The main focus of this union is to renew our acquaintances, to share our valued experiences and knowledge in Korea among KOICA fellows and Cambodia officials and to promote mutual and friendly relationship and partnership between Korea and the Cambodia and to establish a multilateral network of specialists from many disciplines, professional fields, institutions and agencies who have been beneficiaries of KOICA-sponsored scholarship and training programs.

The workshop focused on Rural Community Development, Road Infrastructure, Gender and Women’s Affairs, Save Electricity and Human Health Care. The all five topics were related from one to one topic. All participants were very delighted.

The workshop was organized according to plan. The participants had many questions and showed an enthusiastic interest in their experiences. The discussions continued after finishing each presentation and at the end of 5 topics presentations.
